PSHE

Curriculum Overview
PHSE though less tangible than other subjects occurs throughout Hempstead Infants every hour of every day.
Our whole school ethos promotes PHSE and Citizenship as set out in our mission statement ‘to create independent, curious and resourceful learners.
All classes experience circle time every week. This is based on the SEAL program which covers the 7 areas:
Each year tackles the same SEAL topic at the appropriate ability for that year. Through cross curricular work the pupils cover appropriate topics. Children also experience a weekly ‘thought for the day’ assembly in their class.
Across the school PHSE is also promoted through the following activities:
- Golden Rules – animals on display, in each classroom and in shared areas highlighting good behaviour and respect Celebration Assembly
- Class rewards
- Helping Hands (A group of Year 2 pupils who take a lead role on the playground)
- School Council (democratically elected class representatives who take part in meetings to discuss school and community issues)
- Young leaders
- Child safety
