HEMPSTEAD INFANT SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

We do prefer to see pupils with certain items with a school logo, but this is not essential. Generic bottle green items or t-shirts for PE are acceptable.

For Reception children:

  • Bottle green sweatshirt, fleece or cardigan preferably with school logo
  • Bottle green or grey joggers
  • Grey shorts or gingham playsuits in summer
  • White polo shirt
  • Velcro trainer-type shoes, preferably black
  • All in one waterproof suit
  • Wellington boots
  • A drawstring bag of your choice: if they all have the same bottle green version, it causes difficulties at changing time trying to find each others bags!
  • In the drawstring bag; blue shorts and plimsolls, spare clothing in case of toilet accidents, or wet weather: underwear and socks, t-shirt, joggers.

We have removed dresses and skirts as an option for Reception children as this limits access to the very active curriculum we offer. However, both become an option as they move up into Year 1 and 2.

Year 1 and 2 children are expected to wear uniform which consists of:

  • Bottle green sweatshirt, fleece or cardigan preferably with school logo
  • Grey trousers/shorts
  • Grey skirt/pinafore/culottes
  • White shirt/blouse or “polo” shirt
  • White or grey socks
  • Black or brown sensible shoes or trainers
  • For summer, green/white stripe or gingham dresses, blouses or playsuits
  • In winter, grey or green tights may be worn

 For P.E./Games (all children)

  • Navy blue sports shorts (NOT Bermuda or cycling shorts)
  • White t-shirt, preferably with school logo
  • Plimsolls
  • Navy blue or grey tracksuits may be worn for outdoor games/ activities on cold days
  • A drawstring PE bag of your choice: if they all have the same bottle green version, it causes difficulties at changing time trying to find each others bags. However, as children move up into Year 2 they can have the standard bottle green version.

For reasons of safety, children are asked not to wear nail varnish or jewellery (unless for religious reasons) in school and long hair (to shoulders or longer), boys and girls, should be tied back. Extreme haircuts and colours are not permitted. Children with pierced ears should wear small silver or gold plain studs, which must be removed for all PE activities (Medway guidance).

Please label all clothing with your child’s name
